Grid Security

Our Holistic Approach to Cybersecurity

Security plays an important role in the smarter grid. It sets the stage for ongoing, real-time communication between each smart meter and our system.

We approach grid security holistically, addressing vulnerabilities posed by people, technology, and operations. Our systems rely on multiple, redundant layers — both physical and electronic — and military-grade cybersecurity protocols. Our Information Security Operations Center uses cryptographic methods approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and state-of-the-art monitoring tools.

To ensure the safe and continuous flow of information, we are working closely with federal and state agencies to stay ahead of cyber threats.

Consumer Privacy

In today’s wireless world, consumers are justifiably concerned about privacy.

As we implement five million smart meters in the region, we want assure you of our security practices. Did you know that smart meters transmit just two pieces of information to us? The first is the quantity of electricity you have used, and the second is exactly when you used this electricity. We rely on this information to ensure that your monthly bill is accurate and to optimally manage the electricity grid that serves our region.
