West of Devers Upgrade Project

Southern California Edison (SCE) is committed to delivering electricity from renewable generation resources in order to help meet California’s goals for a clean, green energy future. To meet those important goals, SCE is proposing the West of Devers Upgrade Project. The project will primarily consist of upgrading existing transmission lines within an existing transmission corridor. These upgrades will provide additional capacity to allow new renewable generation to be delivered to the power grid.

Remove and replace approximately 48 miles of existing 220 kilovolt (kV) transmission lines with new double-circuit 220 kV transmission lines between the existing Devers Substation (located near Palm Springs), Vista Substation (located in Grand Terrace), and San Bernardino Substation (located in San Bernardino).Communities potentially affected
Riverside County: Banning, Beaumont, Calimesa, and unincorporated areasSan Bernardino County: Colton, Grand Terrace, Loma Linda, Redlands, and unincorporated areas
Project status
SCE is currently conducting preliminary project planning activities for the project.| 2011-2012 | SCE will conduct project planning and public outreach activities. |
| 4th Quarter 2012 | SCE will submit applications to federal and state regulatory agencies requesting approval to construct the project. |
| 2014 | Subject to obtaining all necessary regulatory approvals, project construction is expected to begin. |
