Power Generation - San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station

Educational Outreach

SONGS employees regularly take on the role of educators, whether it's within the facilities at San Onofre, the classroom walls of our local schools, or meeting halls for civic organizations. And, we welcome opportunities to host limited on-site educational overviews.

SONGS Overview

This overview will be conducted in our training facility on the east side of the freeway. Duration - 2-1/2 hours; accommodates 15 - 40 attendees.

The overview is geared toward middle school students to adults.  It starts with a 60 - 90 minute overview of nuclear power and SONGS, a hands-on radiation demonstration, an escorted tour through our simulator control room (if testing is not underway and it is available), a tour of the emergency operations facility, and view a scale model of the facilities.

Adult participants must bring a photo ID with them. Clothing requirements will be provided upon scheduling of a tour.

All people entering the site are subject to search. Items such as weapons, firearms, and alcoholic beverages are prohibited and cannot be stored in vehicles.

Tours are suspended when national color-coded threat alerts are at the highest Orange or Red levels and for emergent work issues.

Offsite Speakers & Literature

SONGS Ambassadors volunteers are employees who are available to speak to community groups and schools and provide literature about numerous aspects of nuclear energy.
