About Rates & Rate Change
SCE customers’ electricity rates are set by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the body that regulates all investor-owned utilities in the state. Rates undergo a complete audit and assessment every three years. The current SCE General Rate Case (GRC) process, referred to as the 2012 GRC, will set customer rates for the years 2012 to 2014.
Did you know?
Unlike most businesses, SCE and other California’s investor-owned utilities do not increase profits by selling more product. The “product” SCE “sells” is electricity. And rather than encourage our customers to consume more electricity, we work hard to help people save. Over the past five years alone, 6.8 billion kilowatthours of electricity have been conserved through our customers’ enthusiastic participation in energy-efficiency efforts. These savings are enough to power nearly a million homes for an entire year, and they are a big part of why California leads the nation in energy efficiency.
